La rencontre de l’homme et de la technologie est actuellement historique. L’être humain n’a jamais été autant sollicité. Ce que l’homme assimile au quotidien est considérable. En permanence, notre cerveau en adaptation constante teste ses capacités élastiques et il est devenu en quelque sorte un réservoir d’infos, de connaissances et de techno : un récepteur amplifié. Si par le passé, la techno n’était qu’un outil scientifique et utilitaire, sa vulgarisation et son entrée dans nos vies a changé le sens du lien que nous entretenons avec elle.
On est passé d’un geste purement pratique à une relation de nature plus émotionnelle. Une cohabitation comme un niveau de connexion et d’attachement qui est devenu l’extension comme le prolongement de nous même. L’être humain, en cette période charnière, se trouve face à des choix fondamentaux, à des interrogations incontournables, et en ce sens, le numérique est-il prêt à questionner le numérique ?
Jouant délibérément sur la disproportion entre corps minimal et esprit dominant, usant visuellement de volumes extensibles, propulseurs de pensées incontrôlables et de mots sous tension, Coexistence illustre toute la place que prend aujourd’hui la surcharge du data dans notre tête techno-logiquement pleine.

The meeting of man and technology is history in the making. Humans have never been so bombarded. We have to assimilate in a lot every day. The elasticity of our constantly adapting brain is always being tested. Our mind has become a kind of reservoir of information, knowledge and technology: an amplified receiver. If in the past, technology was strictly a utilitarian or scientific tool, its accessibility and the place it’s take in our lives has since changed the sense of the relationship we maintain with it.
We have gone from a purely practical to a more emotional relationship. Co-existence as connection and attachment that is an extension of our ourselves. Humans during this pivotal time face fundamental choices, existential questions, such as: is digital ready to question what it means to be digital?
Co/Existence is an interactive video installation in the form of poetic metamorphoses imagined by Herman Kolgen—who is concerned once again with the impact of territories on the human being. The work invites us to take a clear but light-hearted look at the future and the role of humans in this technological universe that humans themselves have created, and at the centre of which the question of coexistence has become a priority.
Technically, Co/existence sporadically captures a sound imprint of a place or a city. Subjected to the reading of ambient activity, an algorithm generates a human with an oversized head. These different human appearances then have a more or less long life before disappearing in the form of aleatoric code. A new cycle of materialization is then set up.
Deliberately playing on the disproportion between minimal body and dominant mind, with variations in sound that impact the visuals, drive uncontrollable thoughts and stress words, Co/Existence illustrates all the space today that data overload takes in our filled-to-capacity, techno-logical minds.
