LINK.C

IN 2013, THE OPÉRA NATIONAL DE BORDEAUX’S CHARLES GUIVARCH INVITED ME TO CREATE A PIECE BASED ON PHILIP GLASS’S STRING QUARTET NO. 2. FROM THE COMPOSITION’S VERY FIRST NOTES, I WAS STRUCK BY THE MUSIC’S HEIGHTENED SENSITIVITY, SPONTANEOUSLY VISUALIZING IMAGERY THAT WOULD WEAVE TOGETHER OUR MEMORY TRACES BETWEEN THE LINES, LIKE INVISIBLE CONNECTIONS. THESE TOOK ON THE FORM OF TEMPORAL ARTICULATIONS, AS IF THE LINKS AND TIES THAT BIND US TOGETHER WERE FROZEN IN TIME.

INSPIRED BY A FASCINATION FOR A MULTIFARIOUS AND FRAGMENTED KIND OF URBANITY, LINK.C IS A MOVING, ELLIPTICAL REPRESENTATION OF OUR URBAN AREAS. WE ARE ALL INTERDEPENDENT THANKS TO A KIND OF PROXIMITY THAT’S BOTH FRAGILE AND AMBIGUOUS. OUR FRAGMENTED IDENTITY IS ROOTED IN THE PARADOX BETWEEN ISOLATION AND CONNECTEDNESS.
